Description
The most common cause of heart attacks is the formation of a blood clot. This clot causes the blockage of a major blood vessel supplying an area of heart muscle. Low dose aspirin works by preventing the formation of blood clots. Hence it is used to try and prevent heart attacks in patients with angina or in those who have already had a heart attack.
The dose of aspirin used to prevent heart attacks is much smaller than the one used for pain relief.
